Barros Luco Trudeau Hospital, Santiago, Chile. 1998-2012
This art intervention was carried out in the pharmacy building of the Barros Luco Trudeau Hospital. Originally, the building was going to be demolished due to the real estate business affecting the area where the Hospital was built. Although the building dates back to the beginning of the 20th Century, its restoration has never been a priority.
The artistic practice consisted of visually replicating the fall of the building’s first-floor windows, calling into the present the imminent fall of the property. The windows were replicated in a 1:1 scale in translucent fiberglass, giving shape to the arc-boutants. The function of these arches in Gothic architecture was to hold the souls of churches. In the same way, these arc-boutants hold the soul of the pharmacy building, challenging its future demolition.
