Esta práctica artística cuestiona el papel del artista frente a las instituciones culturales estatales, que dependen de la producción del artista. Las galerías de arte locales ofrecen el espacio físico y la difusión, pero es el artista quien tiene que conseguir recursos económicos para hacer la obra de arte, ponerla en escena, desmontarla y, en muchos casos, donarla para la colección de la galería de arte. Esta asimetría entre artistas y espacios institucionales ha sido acentuada en Entrada y Salida II. Se extiende la punta de diamante de la fachada del Edificio del Servicio Electoral de Chile, en fibra de vidrio translúcida, el espacio entre la entrada y la salida se ha reducido al mínimo. Así, cuando estás entrando ya estás saliendo. Este trabajo estubo emplazado seis meses.
Entrance and Exit II, Art Gallery
is an extension of translucent fiberglass of the facade of the Electoral Service Building. The space between the entrance and the exit has been reduced to the minimum; therefore, one is entering and exiting the building at the same time.
This puts into question the fragile relationship between the artist and state-owned cultural institutions. Local art galleries offer a space and diffusion for the artworks, but it is the artist who has to secure funding for the creation, staging, placing, and dismantling of the work. After that, in many cases, it is also expected that the artwork be donated to the gallery’s collection.
